China plans to allow tourists to individuals from pilot cities to visit Taiwan


A senior official in the field of tourism that the Chinese mainland will allow residents of a number of pilot cities to travel to Taiwan as individuals from the second quarter of this year.
In the case of the completion of preparations, the mainland will begin a trial of this policy with effect from the second quarter of this year, according to Shao Qi Wei, head of the tourism exchanges across the strait, during a meeting with Chiang Pin - Kang, President of the Straits Exchange Foundation in Taipei. Shao said that the pilot cities include Beijing, and Shanghai. According to the Department of Mainland Affairs in Taiwan, 1.82 million tourists visited the mainland from Taiwan as part of group programs in the period from July 2008 until the end of 2010. Shao said that the mainland is willing to rehabilitate more travel agencies to sell tour packages to Taiwan. He said the people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait will deepen the understanding between them if they were allowed to travel of individuals.
